About City Reach Institute
Taking Back the Inner City
CRI is the Christ-Centered Discipleship Program under the ministry umbrella of the New York School of Urban Ministry (or NYSUM) located in the heart of New York City.
New York City is a 304 square mile home to over 8.5 million people who speak more than 200 different languages. Only 52% of New York City residents claim a religion, and out of that percentage less than 4% claim Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.
NYSUM was founded in 1984 with the mission to reach the masses of humanity living in this urban, multi-cultural environment by training the next generation of urban leaders, as we serve and support the local church in New York City.
City Reach Institute is NYSUM’s answer to training the next generation of leaders, as we biblically guide our students through a Christ-Centered Discipleship Program. Students 18-30 travel from around the country to develop their ministry calling while obtaining over 1,200 community service hours, and over 750 hours of serving in a local NYC church.
This is an all-inclusive program that will spiritually and mentally prepare students for ministry by providing an amazing in class curriculum with sessions taught by current ministry leaders, and weekly hands-on urban ministry experience in the vast mission field of NYC.
It is the goal of the CRI staff to use our ministry partnerships to guide our graduates into a career field or higher education program, to fulfill NYSUM’s vision of training ministry leaders and serving the urban church.
Disciple, Develop, & Deploy
We are keeping first things first at CRI. Our crafted curriculum is designed to empower our students with first hand experience of inner city ministry, and to equip them with the training necessary to reach the city of their calling.
